The distraction circus that makes up Fortnite appears to have gone into overdrive this week, with the multiple modes and variants of the once PvE-only wave survival shooter bringing a clearly wide assortment of updates. Including… a PvE-only wave survival shooter mode. Huh.
That mode is housed within LEGO Fortnite in the form of Expeditions, which pulls teams of four players together, lets them select from one of three hero classes, and then deploys them on missions across four different maps that primarily involve slaying waves of enemies, though there are ways to help civilians or find treasure as well. It sounds Helldivers adjacent, only with brick people.
If you like Bruno Mars and Fortnite Festival, then you’re in luck because he’s all over the place in the mode’s Season 9, bringing related outfits, jam tracks, a battle pass, and a new main stage. There are also improvements to the mode like the return of all-time leaderboards, easier ways to access favorite songs on the main stage, and improvements to random songs that make it truly random.
The early access tactical FPS variant Fortnite Ballistic got itself an update that introduces the new K-Zone Commons map, a new weapon and gadget, and a pre-game warmup period before a match that lets players try out weapons before the fight begins. Ranks have also been reset and fixes have been applies as well.
Finally we come to Blitz Royale, a faster-paced variant of the 32-player Battle Royale that condenses matches to under five minutes, making it the perfect mode for mobile devices. Four weeks’ worth of gameplay events are scheduled that bring crossover items, while players can earn additional cosmetics from the mode on top.
