Co-op space shooter Wildgate opens beta testing today, looks at July launch

Are you willing to give a space-themed extraction game a go if it’s super-colorful and backed by former Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime? That’s the hope of publisher Dreamhaven and developer Moonshot Games, as they’re getting ready to launch Wildgate on July 22nd.

The launch date was accompanied by an open beta announcement as last weekend’s Summer Game Fest showcase. Today, Wildgate kicked off an open beta that’ll run until the 16th for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. This beta will feature two new playable characters and a reworked daily mission system.

“We’ve expanded and fine-tuned several systems in Wildgate based on feedback from the incredible number of players who joined our community preview playtests,” said Game Director Dustin Browder. “With more than a hundred thousand unique players during the last community preview, the excitement to return to the Reach has us focused on delivering the best experience possible ahead of the game’s launch on July 22nd.”

MOP’s Andy sampled the game last month, finding it hella fun but still lacking in some elements – oh yeah, and the players are insane.
