Pantheon explains its impending itemization overhaul for resists, stats, and progression

Pantheon Rise of the Fallen has been talking up an itemization revamp for a while now, and as of this afternoon, developer Visionary Realms is explaining in full detail just what that will entail for the early access MMORPG.

For starters, Pantheon dev Codeman explains, the studio is making these changes “with 1.0 and beyond in mind,” so what it’s doing will align with the launch and not just be a stopgap measure to satisfy the early access playerbase. He suggests that the team’s itemization goal is to ensure several factors all at once:

  • to provide not just power and progression but move players through the world;
  • to make getting gear “satisfying” without inflating stats;
  • to match the wide variety of stats demanded by class revamps, as well as function as horizontal progression;
  • and to make resists matter more.

Ultimately, then, players can expect new content to bolster any weak gearing level bands, the consolidation of “most” stat bonuses to armor slots (instead of accessories), a rise in the total number of stats, an increase in the stat spread on gear, and an increase in available resist gear to suit future resist-oriented content. Endgamers in Pantheon should definitely take a look at the more granular details in the blog to get a feel for not just what VR is doing but why it’s important for the game’s long-term balance.
