It’s been a year and a month since Motiga’s Gigantic was resurrected and returned from the dead as Gigantic: Rampage Edition. And we were pretty excited about it, although we noted at the time that its launch was marred by server connection issues at the time. So now it has been a year, and what happened? Has the game reached the place of being at least some of what it could be?
Well… no. The game currently sits at a Mostly Negative recent review score on Steam, and the 24-hour peak of Steam players as of this writing is… two. Two people. So what the heck happened?
Sadly, it appears we already told you the answer. Those server connection issues were never really fixed, and beyond that, the game suffered from the fact that the revived version was still heavily based on a game in beta when it died. Perhaps most concerningly, players are reporting that the contracted team that revived the game was let go from the project, so the tiny stream of new stuff for the game has dried up as well. Unfortunately, that’s not a huge surprise, as Arc Games – what’s left of PWE – is still owned by Embracer, and Embracer’s self-owns over the last few years are legendary.
So while Gigantic hasn’t shut down, it appears that revival was less a glorious rebirth and more a brief return before a lingering, shuddering terminus. Isn’t that depressing.
