The other day I was listening to an SSG video that promoted the viewpoint that MMO festivals actually function as a “relief valve” from the often too serious adventures and stories.
It’s here in holiday events that silly, weird, and abnormal activities are promoted without worry that they’ll botch up the realism of the world’s integrity. And so it might be a nice break from the normal grind to stomp on some shrews, sled down a hill, pick flowers, have a water war, take orphans on a tour of the world, or go trick-or-treating.
How do you feel about this viewpoint? Do MMO festivals serve this purpose as a relief valve from the rising pressure of achievement, advancement, and acquisition? Do you appreciate the change of pace when they arrive into town?
