Usually a big content patch for a game would make people pleased, but the Dawn of the Hunt update for Path of Exile 2 has not sparked joy, with players drowning the OARPG in negative Steam reviews as players complain about being forced into specific builds, a minion nerfing, and a long campaign managing to feel longer for most. Fellow blogger Belghast provides a good rundown of the issues on his blog
The uproar has summoned forth GGG to respond with adjustment plans that zero in on several vectors, including adding a new skill for the Huntress to make her frenzy mechanic not require parries to land, reverting minion adjustments back to previous values while still maintaining scaling nerfs for endgame, and reductions to monster life. These tweaks have either already been deployed or will arrive during the week.
Another complaint was about map areas feeling too large, which the studio said it would look in to to ensure previously mentioned problems weren’t the root cause. Those investigations have yielded some changes to certain areas, specifically maps in Act 3 of the campaign that are either too large, lead to unfinished locations, or have difficult to identify exits. Changes are once again planned to arrive in the next few days.
Despite the comms, players are still raising some concerns, most of which focus on POE1 and the continued delay of update 3.26, which readers will recall was pushed back indefinitely in order to fix the early access sequel. Still others are calling on GGG to either keep working on POE1 or completely abandon POE2.
